Anthem Data Breach

General Information

The County of Kern Point of Service Plan uses Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Cross Blue Shield provider networks for travel coverage and for "out of area" members who reside in certain outlying areas or outside of Kern County.

On February 5, 2015 Anthem notified the County of a cyber-attack on their networks, which involved access to personal information, including social security numbers, birthdates, and addresses. We do not yet know if County employees on the Point of Service Plan would be affected by this data breach, but Anthem is researching and will let us know as soon as the impacts are fully assessed.

As a cautionary measure, Anthem will be mailing a notice to all members whose information may have been accessed in the data breach.

Employees who have only been enrolled in Kern Legacy Health Plan, County of Kern Exclusive Provider Organization Plan, or Kaiser Permanente plans should not be impacted by this data breach.
